When the pastry has firmed up, trim the edges with a small sharp knife. Place the tarts in the fridge and repeat the process with the remaining dough. Place the rings on a lined baking tray and line them with the pastry. Cut out discs slightly larger than the tart rings (mine are 8cm in diameter). Roll the pastry out to 3mm thick on a surface lightly dusted with flour. Once the dough is firm, remove from the fridge and cut in half. Press the dough into a flat square, cover in plastic wrap and rest in the fridge for 1 hour. Mix until it just comes together as a dough. It is important that you do not over mix at this stage and ensure that all the butter is combined without forming a paste.Ĭombine the sugar, water and egg in a bowl, stop the mixer and add this to the crumb mixture. Combine the sifted flour and butter to form a crumb you can do this either in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, food processor or rub the butter into the flour by hand. (slightly modified from Kirsten Tibballs youtube channel) We had them for our Valentine’s dinner dessert, and they closed the evening with a golden key. They were both spectacular, but I am particularly thrilled by the first one: Berry Rebellion Tarts. Today I share a recipe she offered on her youtube channel, and show you another tart (without the recipe) that is part of the Savour school. The doable component goes out of the window, and it goes real fast. Well, except when she performs her magic tricks with tempered chocolate. And the icing on the cake? She always has a nice smile and a calm, serene demeanor that makes even the most complex recipes seem doable. Plus, she is a perfect teacher, going over every detail in the recipe, making sure you know what is absolutely important to pay attention to and why. Kirsten Tibballs’ CV is quite impressive, you can read about her in this recent interview. Yes, yet another adjective joined my party. They add new videos on a regular basis, but in my opinion, even if they did not, the material already available is mind-blowing. I found Savour by accident about 6 months ago, and decided that a monthly subscription to have access to the hundreds of patisserie videos (260 at the present time) was more than worthy it. Those are some of the adjectives I must use to express how I feel about Savour online classes, particularly those taught by the founder of the site, Kirsten Tibballs. Fantastic, terrific, outstanding, phenomenal, impressive, superb. Arrange in an even layer and cook until golden-brown and crisp, tossing about halfway through, about 35 minutes. Let the potatoes cool for 5 minutes, then add them to a large bowl with the lemon juice. How is dewpoint measured by desiccant air dryers?ĭesiccant air dryers can benefit from a dewpoint sensor for monitoring dryer performance, controlling desiccant tower regeneration, or both. Due to their relatively low initial cost, long term reliability and minimal maintenance requirements, refrigerated dryers often do not integrate a dewpoint transmitter into their design for monitoring or control purposes. Refrigerated dryers operate by using a refrigerant to cool the supply air with heat exchangers (usually to between 35✯ to 40✯) and condense out water vapor for removal by a moisture separator and drain. How is dewpoint measured by refrigerated air dryers? Portable devices are an excellent tool for verifying dryer performance, conducting quality audits, and checking the calibration of fixed mount instruments. This helps ensure that the dewpoint level of the air being produced at the dryers is maintained through the entire facility and to the end use points. On the demand side, fixed mount instruments providing a local display, alarm relays and datalogging capability are quite common throughout the distribution network and before critical end-use applications to give operators and plant personnel a quick assessment of dewpoint conditions at specific points in the system. On the supply side, dewpoint transmitters providing analog signals can be built into the dryer control system or can be installed in-line before or after the receiver tank. The demand side consists of the distribution and storage systems or everything after the flow/pressure controller. The supply side consists of the compressors and air treatment equipment up to the flow/pressure controller. When discussing a typical facility’s compressed air system, it’s helpful to divide the entire network into two separate subsystems: the supply side and demand side. How is dewpoint measured and monitored in most facilities? Some lab equipment, such as glove boxes, may require their feed gas to meet an established dewpoint level in order to maintain the inert atmosphere of the chamber. This is usually accomplished through the environmental control system and has little to do with compressed air. Dewpoint can be an important parameter to control. Laboratory environments are often designed to maintain a controlled atmosphere in order to eliminate airborne contaminants and any sources of error that may interfere with testing. Why is dewpoint so important in laboratory environments? The risks associated with letting dewpoint levels go unchecked can include equipment failure, condensation in process lines and on finished product, and the potential for bacterial formation. Continuous monitoring and control of dewpoint is often a requirement for instrument air, drying processes, packaging, and actuating process control valves. For example, bulk solid and powder conveyers used for moving product rely on sufficiently dried and filtered air in order to perform their function properly and prevent product contamination. The importance of knowing the dewpoint in a compressed air line may be critical for some applications but less relevant for others. Why is dewpoint so important in pharmaceutical applications?Ĭompressed air may be used for a number of applications in the pharmaceutical industry, such as raw material transport, processing equipment, pneumatic power sources, and cleaning. When addressing dewpoint in pressurized compressed air, the correct terminology is actually “pressure dewpoint,” but this is often shortened to “dewpoint” in common usage. The term “pressure dewpoint” refers to the dewpoint temperature of a gas at pressures higher than atmospheric pressure. In other words, when the dewpoint temperature has been reached, the gas is fully saturated with water vapor. air) must be cooled, at constant pressure, for water vapor to begin to condense to liquid water. Dewpoint is defined as the temperature to which a gas (e.g. Harold Abrahams is a Jew and Cambridge man who strives to overcome anti-Semitism by proving his worth. If any of those are true, this is for you. Or maybe you just want to work through a year's worth of studies on your own or with a friend. Like the aforementioned NS6 MK2 and Denon MC7000 essentially being a similar level of gear, likewise, the MC5000M releasing just a year after the Twelves dropped seemed a little odd to me as well. It feels like InMusic needs to coordinate between their brands a bit better and create a little more of an overarching strategy from the top level. That's the standard that we can reach, but I'm curious as to where everybody else settles in relative to that height. I'm interested in where the next five years take us - I played a big NYE gig where I had requests for songs that I didn't have, and the ability to stream directly into my Denon Prime players was amazing (I'd done it with Serato, but never with standalone gear). I think that the NS6ii and their non super-OEM turntable that came out a few years ago represented a good top shelf for Numark, also Reloop may exist more the middle with their impressive hanpin turntables (their choices for the Reloop Touch and the Mixon controller was an unexpected move IMO, but I'm glad they're trying to reach out to different, non-Serato users). And why would you need to? Most people don't need a huge, bulking, mechanical controller with a screen to control Serato. Numark have great high end gear like the NS7 line, but that hasn't been updated in over four years. They're all part of a HUGE business family - I think about the technical advances that have been made in the past ten years where the focus has almost entirely been on digital DJing, and it's fair to think there's been some overlap. I either need to change controllers, change speakers, or add a tube preamp to my mobile setup. This creates a dilemma for me because sound quality matters to me. It appears I have mistakenly paired a notoriously bright sounding controller with speakers that offer too much high end. And the Pioneer pierce made the Bose sound more clear. Sure enough the lack of highs in the Bose tamed the Pioneer pierce. I tested this theory by running my 1000 through Bose speakers. This may explain why people's opinions on Pioneer's sound quality varies so widely: their mixers couple well with speakers that roll off early in the highs. The overly bright pioneer sound works well with the slightly dull highs on the QSCs. I watched a dj play a DDj 1000 with K12s and the sound was excellent. So I have been using the Evolve 50s with my DDJ 1000 (although the speakers sound way better with my NS7). I also avoided buying QSC speakers because ultimately I felt EV and Yamaha sounded more clear in the highs. Harsh highs and shallow bass makes me want to add a tube preamp to fatten up the sound. I noticed something interesting over the weekend. Certain doses of parietin killed half the leukemia cells in the cell culture within 48 hours. The metabolic pathway affected is the pentose-phosphate pathway. It is a common phenomenon that cancer cells have altered metabolic states and the enzyme 6-PGD is vital in the translation of energy substrates into cell division. The research was designed to identify inhibitors of a key metabolic enzyme 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD) which shows significantly higher activity in various cancer cell lines. This particular pigment was a more potent derivative of that found in lichen and known as S3 and could cut the growth of a lung cancer cell line by three to eleven days when these cells were implanted in the mice. It appeared the pigment could also check the growth of human cancer cell lines that were grown from head, neck and lung tumours when these were grafted into mice. The pigment called either parietin or physcion was found to either kill or at least slowdown the growth of human leukaemia cells taken from a sufferer with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia without destroying the human blood cells. It is important to remain cautious about the hype that gushes forth from studies such as this but any natural substance that challenges a global killer is worth assessing further.
